Working away from home
The working environment abroad is different to what you are used to. It should not be overlooked. Your ability to adjust to the new environment also matters as well as your ability to do the job. Don’t assume that the working conditions here in the Philippines are the same as the working conditions e.g. in Dubai, Canada or USA or UK. You need to be able to ask yourself, before leaving the country, if you are really ready to cope in a different working condition. What makes it different?
First, of course, you’ll be treated as minority. Somebody who does not manifest the same features from the greater part, your attitude, behavior and accent make you noticeable.
Next, values. You will find values different from your own. E.g. In some countries, workers are more loyal to their companies than their families.
Another thing is, Climate. Ask yourself if you can you cope up with extreme temperatures..You’ll also have to deal with hurricanes, tornadoes etc.
Next is Communication. Since English is our second language, Pinoys have to ensure whenever speaking that they are well-understood.
Next, you’ll find that the working practices are entirely strange. You might regard your responsibilities lightly here in the Philippines but once you are abroad, you’ll definitely be hard working far from what you expect.
These are just some of the differences that you have to confront with. For the most part, the pinoys abroad are admired workers. Pinoys have shown dedication and dependability to their work that’s why in some countries pinoys are sought after workers around the world.

Pinoy unemployment rate
According to the recent news, the Philippine labor market had a strong performance since January 2009 rated from 92.3 percent to 92.7 percent. Despite of the global crisis, it still created 1.7 million jobs. But I think, it doesn’t give a positive hope for those who are still unemployed. Because of this, there are still more than a million of Pinoys who desire to leave and work abroad. It’s not a wonder if you find pinoys around the globe. Pinoys always feel that the grass is greener on the other side. Most of these pinoys have a wish for a more vibrant kind of lifestyle for their families. That gives them an edge to earn more and opportunity to extend their professional experience.
